The Winery

The tasting room is done in an French Provencal farmhouse style, featuring a lot of wood as well as tile floors. In addition to the wines, there are a number of upscale gift items and household goods for sale. Next to the tasting room is a large, shady lawn area with tables, perfect for a picnic lunch. The Winery name Terre Rouge (meaning red earth) is derived from the prevalent red soils found in the area.

The Vineyards

The estate includes the old Dickson Vineyards, featuring Zinfandel vines planted as far back as prohibition. The estate vineyards also include Cabernet Sauvignon vines that date to 1972. The winery purchases grapes from vineyards in other Amador County and foothill locations to supplement the estate vines. Among these are from the Fiddletown AVA Eschen Rinaldi Vineyards, with vines dating to the late 1860s.

The Wines

The winery produces wines under two labels, Terre Rouge and Easton. The Terre Rouge wines are Rhone in varietal and style. Easton wines are the non-Rhone varietals, including their popular Zinfandel and Barbera, as well as a Late Harvest Zin from the Herbert Vineyards in El Dorado County.

The Winemaker

The winemaker for both labels is Bill Easton. He spent 30 years in all phases of the wine industry, and in 1985 established the winery. In 1994 Mr. Easton moved the winery to its present location on Dickson Road.
