The Winery
Coulson recently moved their tasting room to a location very close to their original location - in a small shopping area just off Carson Road. We will be updating the information on that soon. In 1972 it became El Dorado Vineyards producing small batches of red wines. Ed Coulson purchased the facility in 1995 and renamed it Coulson El Dorado Winery. The tasting room is small and located on the south end of the building.
The Vineyards
The winery purchases its grapes from numerous foothill vineyards, taking advantage of the multiple microclimates offered by a mountainous growing area.
The Wines
It is hard to pin any one style to the Coulson wines. They range from Rhone to Bordeaux and then next thing you know you are off to Italy. The one thing you can say is there has been no shortage of awards won.
The Winemaker
Ed Coulson, like so many of the foothill winemakers, was an engineer with a love for home winemaking. After winning numerous amateur wine competitions, he decided to turn his hobby into a career in 1995 and purchased his El Dorado winery.
