The Winery
Although there is no public access to Findleton Estate & Winery, they operate a tasting room which is located in a multiple winery tasting facility in Camino. Nestled amongst towering pines and close to Highway 50, the facility has a very nice picnic area and a fun wine gift shop.
The Vineyards
The estate grows 5 acres of Pinot Noir, on well-drained chalky volcanic soils, in the locally infamous Pneumonia Gulch. This is a site known for being cool in the summers and down right cold in the winters resulting in slow ripening and optimal flavors and balance. The remaining grape varietals utilized by the winery are purchased from local El Dorado County vineyards.
The Wines
The winery is one of a very limited number of local wineries producing a Pinot Noir, and a member of an even smaller number that do it with estate grown grapes. Findleton also produces a local Zinfandel that does a great job of balancing delicious fruit with soft tannins and a long finish.
The Winemaker
Tom Findleton is the owner and winemaker at Findleton Estate and Winery. Tom has had experience as a home winemaker for over 30 years before deciding to retire and dedicate more time to the vineyard and winery. His daughter, Carrie, is also involved in the vineyard and winemaking process. Carrie studied Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis and has experience working with Pinot on the Sonoma Coast, New Zealand and Burgundy, France.
