The Winery
Aaron and Cheri Hill left their home in Alaska and moved to sunny California in 1999. It wasn’t long before they discovered the wonderful wines of El Dorado County and decided to open their own winery there. With the help of family and friends, they founded Illuminare Estate Winery in 2000. The tasting room is one of a group of wineries that share a wine plaza in Camino, a great spot to enjoy the wines and a little conversation.
The Vineyards
The winery primarily buys their grapes from sierra foothill vineyards, mostly from Amador County. These warmer region grapes help create the bold, fruit forward wines that the winery is known for.
The Wines
The Illuminare wines are characterized by big bold flavors with great body and lots of ripe, black fruit. They are one of the few wineries in the foothills to offer a varietal from the South African Pinotage grape; a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut.
The Winemaker
Aaron Hill is the owner of, and winemaker at, Illuminare. He worked with other local winemakers while he learned the craft and opened his own boutique winery.
