The Winery

Sogno, like many of the foothill wineries, is a fairly new and stylish facility. The tasting room is very inviting; bright and airy with an Italian style to it. The overall estate is quite large with extensive event facilities. They also offer limited over night accommodations on the estate grounds.

The Vineyards

The 30-acre estate vineyards are planted to Syrah, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Barbera, Viognier and Muscat Canelli. The winery buys many of its whites and additional red varietals from vineyards within the county, as well as from neighboring counties.

The Wines

Sogno very definitely has Italian varietals and Italian style wines at its soul. It is a great place to taste wines that are usually not found in the foothills. They offer a Primitivo and an Aglianico, both not seen until recently in the tasting rooms of El Dorado County. These two red wines are big and fruity, with the staying power to be laid down for a few years. They also have a fair representation of the Bordeaux and Rhone varietals in their portfolio. The wine list is very extensive, and will require multiple trips to fully appreciate.

The Winemaker

The estate founder, Rich Davis, is also the winemaker at Sogno. Rich prides himself on a pioneering spirit when it comes to wine making. He is always looking for new varietals and blends, and is quite successful in turning them into excellent wines. Because of this pioneering spirit, Rich has made Sogno a great place for the budding wine enthusiast to experience new wine styles before they are available elsewhere.
