The Winery

The winery is located on top of a ridge on the southern end of El Dorado County in the Fair Play AVA. The tasting room is light and airy, done in a modern style, and sells gourmet food items, artwork, photography, and children’s clothes, as well as the wine.

The Vineyards

Located at the 2700-foot elevation the vineyards were planted more than 25 years ago with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sémillon. Even though the vineyard is only ten acres, its varied terrain allows for multiple microclimates that add to the complexity of the wines dkcellars produces. The winery also purchases grapes from other El Dorado County vineyards and Petite Sirah from Lodi.

The Wines

The winery is best known for their award winning Bordeaux varietal wines, including their dry Sémillon and Meritage blend. They also produce a full bodied, fruit forward Zinfandel, from the locally popular Herbert Vineyard, that has done very well in recent wine competitions.

The Winemaker

The winemaker at dkcellars is Dave Pratt. He and wife Kim became interested in the area when attending an El Dorado County Passport weekend and purchased the estate in 1997. While learning the winemaking trade, Dave mentored with other local winemakers and now produces award winning wines with each new vintage.
