The Winery

This is truly a unique winery made from rice straw bales housed in concrete. The walls are 2 feet thick, and not only give the winery an old world charm, but also contribute to keeping the winery at a consistent temperature. The facility is located amidst the vineyards and offers lovely local views from the patio tables. The tasting room is small and cozy, located in the winery itself, and sells many fun kitchen items in addition to their wonderful wines.

The Vineyards

The estate vineyards are found at the 1500 and 2050 ft elevation. The elevation and decomposed granitic soils work well with the winery’s choice of Italian and Rhone varietals, as well as Zinfandel and Chardonnay.

The Wines

The winemaker prides himself on producing wines with flavors that are true to their grape’s varietal. The winery has come up with a very fun and innovative wine club that allows the true wine enthusiast the ability to produce their own barrel of wine. Participating in the process all the way from harvest to bottling, the club member takes home roughly 25 cases of Zinfandel when the process is complete.

The Winemaker

Larry Long is the owner and winemaker at Amador Cellars. He and wife Linda started as home winemakers and now share the numerous winery duties.
