The Winery
The estate is located at the 1700-foot elevation directly across from Deaver Vineyards in the California Shenandoah Valley AVA. The tasting room is small with a beautiful hilltop location and lovely local vineyard views, as well as impressive views of the Sierras in the distance. This is the perfect spot for a relaxing picnic lunch to accompany an excellent, food friendly, Amador Foothill wine.
The Vineyards
The estate grows Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Syrah, Aglianico and Zinfandel in decomposed granitic soils. They also purchase grapes from several well-known local dry farmed Zinfandel vineyards, including Clockspring, Esola and Ferrero.
The Wines
As with many Amador County wineries, Amador Foothill Winery is known for its great Zins. This winery has been making a variety of Zinfandel wines with grapes purchased from local vineyards since 1980, including the certified organic Clockspring Vineyard. With the help of an enology consultant from Italy, the owners have also put a lot of energy into producing a great Tuscan-style Sangiovese.
The Winemaker
Katie Quinn, co-owner of the winery, received a degree in chemistry from Sonoma State University, and her graduate degree in enology from the University of California, Davis. Prior to Amador Foothill Winery, Katie worked at Gundlach Bundschu located in the Sonoma Valley.
