The Winery

The Deaver facility is set amongst the beautiful oak woodlands of Amador County. The tasting room itself is housed in a building reminiscent of an old Dutch Barn, with a country inn on site for those who would like to make it more than just a day trip. Across the parking lot from the tasting room is a picturesque old barn next to a small pond, with a couple of inviting picnic tables.

The Vineyards

The vineyards at the Deaver estate are truly a part of California history. The 300 acres include Zinfandel vines that are over 120 years old, as well as Mission vines considered by many to be the oldest remaining in California. By selling their grapes to a loyal group of home winemakers, these vineyards survived prohibition and the lean years that followed. The Zins from the estate’s John J. Davis vineyard were famously used by Sutter Home to make their first Amador County Zin, credited with starting the rush back to the foothills for their unique grape growing capabilities. As well as using these grapes to make their own wines, Deaver sells much of their Old Vine Zin to wineries all over the state.

The Wines

The Deaver Vineyard Zins are known for their big, intense, fruit forward wines with a structure of velvety tannins. The winery also produces a very unusual Golden Port from the old vine Mission Grapes, a little California history in a bottle.

The Winemaker

Winemaking has been a part of the Deaver Family for over 100 years in Amador County, and grape growing even longer. The family decided to begin producing wines again in the 1980s, and the current winemaker Ken Deaver is producing some of the areas nicest old vine Zins.
