The Winery

The estate is built on the site of pre-prohibition Peroni Winery, which specialized in Zinfandel and Mission wines. As the wine and grape business slowed, unfortunately the Peroni’s pulled out some of the old vineyards and planted them to walnut trees. Pam and Jerry Notestine purchased the estate in the late 1980’s. The winery has a very attractive picnic area with an unusual fountain, styled after a wine bottle, under the shade of a couple of old oak trees.

The Vineyards

Nine Gables has a small amount of 85 year-old mission Vines left from the Peroni Vineyards, as well as some of the original Zin Vines. The Notestines have pulled many of the walnut trees out and re-established the vineyards in their place.

The Wines

The winery produces a large variety of wine for such a small facility. The Old Vine Mission Wines provide an opportunity to taste a little of California history. The Old Vine Mission Sherry is extremely rare in the Foothills, and is definitely worth trying. The winery also produces a very nice Zinfandel as well as an award winning Barbera.

The Winemaker

The winemaker at Nine Gables is owner and founder, Jerry Notestine. He produces wines in small, hand made batches that spend 18 months in Oak before being bottled.
