The Winery
The Stonehouse winery and tasting room is a large, modern facility that showcases a Thomas Kincade Gallery in addition to the estate wines. The facility also includes overnight accommodations at their Stonehouse Inn, and there are plans for a Thomas Kincade style wedding chapel in the near future. On the patio outside the tasting room are located several patio tables to accommodate a picnic lunch, or just a little relaxation during a busy day of wine tasting.
The Vineyards
This Shenandoah Valley wine estate consists of 6.9 acres with 3 currently planted to vineyards. The estate also owns 17.5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in El Dorado County.
The Wines
The Stonehouse Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandels are known for their bold fruit and smoky flavors. They also produce a wonderfully robust Syrah with great red fruit, soft tannins, and just a hint of floral notes.
The Winemaker
Mitchell B. Shultz is a man of many talents. He was a corporate pilot for Jeff Jackson, of Kendall Jackson, from whom he first heard of the Sierra Foothills’ potential for producing great red wine grapes. He and his wife also operated a bakery and wine bar in Sonoma County prior to coming to Amador, which they sold when they purchased the estate.
