The Winery

The Tasting room for Story Vineyards is located on a hilltop overlooking the Cosumnes River Canyon. The tasting room is small, but beautifully done, and carries several wine related gifts for sale. The winery was opened in 1973 by Eugene Story, and was later sold to the current owners, Bruce and Jan Tichenor, in 1992. The views from the tasting room picnic area are breathtaking, and it is well worth your time to relax there with a bottle of California history.

The Vineyards

The estate has roughly 50 acres of vineyards, some of which are officially dated to the early 1900’s (though the mission grapes might be even older). These beautiful, old gnarly Mission vines are located next to the tasting room, making for some great photo ops. The remaining vineyards are planted to Chenin Blanc, Barbera and Sangiovese.

The Wines

The Tichenors create at least seven different Zinfandels, some from estate-grown old vine grapes, and some from grapes purchased from other vineyards in the area. The winery also produces an estate-grown old vine Mission wine that sells out quickly to its devoted following.

The Winemaker

Bruce and Jan Tichenor both are retired pharmacists from Bay Area. They decided to live their dream of winemaking and purchased the Story Winery and vineyards in 1992.
