The Winery
Drytown Cellars is located off Highway 49 atop a knoll just outside the little city of Dry Town. The tasting room is connected to the winery, and located next to the barrel room for a little ambiance. It is not uncommon for one of the owners to be pouring wines in the tasting room, giving you an excellent opportunity for a little wine related discussion while tasting.
The Vineyards
The winemaker is not currently utilizing estate grapes to make his wines. The grapes are purchased from throughout the foothills and other areas of California.
The Wines
The tasting room offers quite a wide selection of varietals that highlight many of the differences in terroir that California offers. The winemaker, Allen Kreutzer, tries to maintain the fruit characteristics in his wines by a minimum of manipulation and handling during processing.
The Winemaker
Allen Kreutzer is the winemaker at Drytown, but also works as a consulting winemaker for Kirigin Cellars in Gilroy and Conti Estate in El Dorado County (formerly Charles B. Mitchell). He has a degree from UC Davis in Fermentation Science and has worked in the industry for over 20 years.
