The Winery

Although the winery is located in the Fiddletown AVA of Amador County, their wines are offered for tasting in downtown Sutter Creek at a tasting room shared with two El Dorado County wineries, Gold Hill and Crystal Basin. The tasting room is located in a historic Victorian right on the main street, and features selection of fun wine gift items for sale. Le Mulet Rouge also produces wine vanity labels for those who want to commemorate a special occasion.

The Vineyards

The winery buys their grapes from local growers as they wait for their own vineyards to mature. There are currently six acres planted with Syrah, four with Cabernet Sauvignon, two of Sauvignon Blanc and one acre of Viognier.

The Wines

At the moment, the winery has a great selection of the French varietal wines, almond, raspberry, peach and pineapple sparkling wines, and a Barbera to round out the mix. Their Port style wine is made from four native Portuguese grape varietals.

The Winemaker

Jack and Sheila Feichtner are the owners of Le Mulet Rouge. Jack takes on the winemaking duties and has a background in physical science including physics. He previously worked in research at both Westinghouse and Lockheed-Martin. Sheila was originally in education and project management and has pursued training and experience in the winery business.
