The Winery

The winery is located in a remodeled warehouse in the Gold Rush town of Mokelumne Hill. The tasting room is attached to the winery, and is full of beautiful and unusual pieces of art consistent with the wine theme.

The Vineyards

The winery purchases all of its grapes from Foothill vineyards. The wide variety is a testament to the robustness of terroir available in this region of wine country.

The Wines

French Hill designs their wines in the Cal-Italia style. They have been particularly successful with their Barbera, which has not only won numerous awards in the United States, but won the winery an invitation to participate in the International Barbera competition in Piedmont Italy in 2006. In addition to an award winning Tempranillo, French Hill also produces a Cabernet Sauvignon which is nicely balanced and features a good structure as well as a hint of spice.

The Winemaker

Rod Ruthel is the owner and winemaker of French Hill Winery. Mr. Ruthel is an accomplished artist and has made quite a name for his incredibly beautiful wine label designs.
