The Winery
The Zucca Vineyards tasting room is located in a cellar below a 150-year-old historic building in downtown Murphys, giving it a wine cellar feel. There is also a small gift area for unusual wine related items. The actual winery is located on the New Melones Reservoir, surrounded on three sides by water.
The Vineyards
The cooling effect of the lake near the vineyard creates breezes that allow the vines respite from the hot summer temperatures. This is the perfect microclimate to grow the varietals the winery specializes in, Rhone and Italian.
The Wines
The specialties of the estate are Syrah, Sangiovese and Barbera varietal wines produced in a contemporary Italian winemaking style. These wines have been successful, not only with wine competitions, but with the wine loving public as well. They sell out quickly at the winery each year, so try them early in the season or you may miss your opportunity.
The Winemaker
Carol and Gary Zucca share the winemaking duties. Gary started his career as a naval officer and has a PhD in sociology and organizational behavior. Carol taught biology and chemistry prior to becoming a winemaker.
