The Winery

The winery has been operating in downtown Nevada City since 1980, located in the historic Miners Foundry Garage. It was the first bonded winery to be opened in Nevada County since Prohibition. The tasting room is a beautifully modern, bright, and airy facility with great gourmet food supplies and wine gifts for sale.. The tasting room is located one block west of the main street of Nevada City in a historic Miners Foundry Garage. The winery is named after the first winery in Nevada County, founded in 1880, just two blocks from the modern version.

The Vineyards

The winery purchases grapes from some of the finest vineyards throughout Nevada County and the Sierra Nevada Foothills. To rounds out their wine portfolio, the estate also purchases grapes from prime vineyards throughout other regions of California as well.

The Wines

Nevada City Winery is known for its award winning, full-bodied, fruit forward red wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel and Syrah. Their Gewürztraminer, with its great fruit and floral qualities, has also received its share of awards from numerous recent competitions.

The Winemaker

Winemaker Mark Foster has a B.S degree in Biology, and a master’s degree in Zoology, Industrial Engineering and Enology. Having worked previously at Smother’s Brothers, Chalone, and Madroña wineries, Mark came to Nevada City in 1992.
