The Winery

The winery currently produces their wines at another winery in the El Dorado AVA, but plans to move it to the vineyard site at a future date. The estate is located on the historic site of the Irving Ranch, which has produced premium fruit in the region since 1891. The Grace Family purchased the ranch in 2000 and has continued that history with the production of premium wine grapes used in their small batch, handcrafted wines. The original farm house is in the process of being remodeled with a tasting room to follow soon after.

The Vineyards

The vineyard sits on a picturesque hilltop in the eastern region of the El Dorado County AVA. This affords views of the Crystal Range of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east, and the Sutter Buttes in the northern Sacramento Valley to the west. This is a land of rich loam, well-drained soils. The topography promotes the flow of cold air off the vineyards in the winter, and embraces the breeze off the mountains in summer. This allows the grapes to achieve optimum hang time and complex, concentrated flavors.

The Wines

The winery currently produces three red wines; Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, all sourced from Sierra Foothills grapes. Although the winery does not have a tasting facility in El Dorado County today, the wines can be purchased in wine shops in California and Nevada with a tasting room coming soon.

The Winemaker

The winemaker at Grace Patriot is Tyler Grace, son of owners Steve and Bea Grace. He earned an Earth Science degree at Dartmouth College in 1994 and a biology degree from the University of Oregon in 1996. He went on to major in Enology and Viticulture at California State University, Fresno. He has worked at such wineries as Heitz Cellars, Quail Ridge and Bell Wine Cellars in the Napa Valley prior to his work with Grace Patriot Wines.
