The Winery
The winery is located amidst massive oaks and vineyards not far from the small town of Ione. The intimate tasting room is located in the barrel room, which adds to the ambiance of the experience. Although the winery opened in 2008, it has already developed a devoted following for its wines.
The Vineyards
After experimenting with viniculture in their Elk Grove home, Andrew and Jill Tanis decided to take it to the next level and purchased their land on Willow Creek Road. The estate has both Zinfandel, and its twin sister, Primitivo planted at the winery site, as well as Syrah. They also purchase grapes, like Tempranillo, Barbera, and Pinotage, from other premium foothill vineyards as well as other parts of California to use in their varietal blends.
The Wines
The wines of Tanis are primarily Rhone and Italian in varietal and style. All wines are hand-made in small batches, with a view towards drinking now, but with an ability to age for several years.
The Winemaker
Andrew Tanis started his winemaking career as a home winemaker. After moving to Amador County, he began working with local winemakers to produce his first commercial vintage in 2005.
