The Winery

Clos du Lac Cellars, originally named Greenstone Winery, was purchased by Tim Evans in 1996. After acquiring the winery, he renamed it to its present title, and converted it to a French Country Chateau style facility. The tasting room is beautifully done in light colored woods and features lots of natural light. In the tasting room, one can purchase wonderful works of art, or upscale wine related gifts, as well as select from a wide range of wines at the tasting bar. The grounds are masterfully done to take in the architecture of the Chateau as well as the natural beauty of the area, making Clos du Lac perfect for a picnic lunch amongst the stone outcroppings.

The Vineyards

The 70-acre estate includes Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, as well as a number of Rhone varietals. To supplement this, the winery also purchases grapes from a number of different vineyards throughout the foothills, and indeed the entire state.

The Wines

The wines are created in the French style with a great selection of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Viognier, just to name a few. They also have at least five different Zinfandels to choose from, and a very fun California Sparkling wine. Although a fairly high volume winery, Clos du Lac still produces some excellent smaller batch reserve wines, well worth a trip to the beautiful tasting room.

The Winemaker

Winemaking at Clos du Lac is a family affair. Winery President Tim Evans acts as the lead winemaker, and his brother Kelly is in charge of the day to day production.
