The Winery
The Hatcher Winery and tasting room is located in the town of Murphys. The tasting room is in the basement of the historic Segale Building, which gives it an old world wine cellar feel. There are a small amount of gift items for sale in the tasting room.
The Vineyards
Most of the grapes used to make the Hatcher wines are either grown on the estate vineyards in Angles Camp, or come from other Sierra Foothill Vineyards. There are a small amount of grapes that come from other parts of California, such as the Viognier, which comes from Sonoma.
The Wines
The winery’s small batched, hand-made, wines are all aged in oak, primarily French, barrels. The winery is known for its wonderfully distinct Zinfandel wines; however, they have added a Pinot Noir produced from Sonoma grapes that offer great cherry and strawberry, with a bit of minerality. They also offer a Syrah sourced from grapes right in the Murphys area.
The Winemaker
Matthew Hatcher started as an amateur winemaker and decided to make his passion a career. He is assisted in his winemaking duties by his brother Sewell as well as Scotty Hancock.
