Ed again looked deep into her eyes. The first stars of the evening glittered in the warm summer evening,
but Ed was oblivious to them. Instead, he turned and held her tight in his arms. He could feel her warm
breath against his cheek. Brushing the tip of his nose against Pauline, she tentatively took the initiative
and brushed her lips lightly against Ed’s.
Ed responded with a deep, soulful, and long lasting kiss. They both felt momentarily dizzy. Ed broke
it off. “I think that we are becoming something more than friends.”
They then made their way to Ed’s apartment, arm in arm. Walking up the steps, Ed looked at Pauline
for the thousandth time on their walk back from the restaurant. “You have also had quite a bit of wine.
You should not be driving for a while. How would you like a frozen mocha? We could sit on my front
porch swing and take in the summer evening. "
Pauline smiled. “That would be splendid. I would love to sit with you.”
She sat down on the porch swing while Ed went inside to make the mochas. A few minutes later, he came
out and sat down with Pauline. Suddenly the mochas did not seem important as they kissed deeply, again and
again.
